Parties across the political spectrum tried to make a killing on the stand-off between fisherfolk and the Union ministry of environment and forests (MEF). Top leaders asked Environment minister T R Baalu to review the controversial notification. Former chief minister of Tamil Nadu (TN) and All-India Anna Dravida Munethra Kazagham (AIADMK) supremo J Jayalalitha made an official statement, demanding that the MEF revoke the ban. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) made a similar appeal. TN chief minister O Paneerselvam wrote to the Prime Minister seeking a review of the move.
