The Green Buyer's Car Guide rates the environmental friendliness of various cars. It ranks each model's polluting potential from exhaust pipe emissions, engines, fuel systems and airconditioners. An average vehicle emits 53 pounds of hydrocarbons a year. The Mercedes-Benz received 93 points while Buick Century got 40. It takes a very close look at the cars dirven by senior White House officials. White House advisor Thomas F Mclarty, who drives a Lincoln Mark VIII, gets a rating of 55.03. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol M Browner's Volvo Station Wagon got a rating of 56.29.
