Pesticides residues in food 2006

The monitoring programme for pesticide residues in food undertaken by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (DAFF) through its Pesticide Control Service (PCS), at Backweston, Co. Kildare, is aimed at ensuring that consumers are not exposed to unacceptable pesticide residue levels. In addition, it is aimed at ensuring that authorised pesticides are correctly applied to food crops and that the unauthorised use of pesticides is detected. This report provides detailed information on the organisation and execution of the monitoring programme, the results of the sampling and analysis programme for pesticide residues in both imported and domestic food in 2006 and on actions taken where unsatisfactory results are encountered.
