Riding the wind

Researchers at the British Eagle Cycles in south Wales, UK, have developed a super bike - a racing cycle with a one-piece carbon-fibre frame and superb aerodynamics, which makes it lighter and quicker than traditional steel frame bikes.

Named Lotus Bike - after a British sports car manufacturer who helped firiance its development and design, the bike is designed to allow air to pass evenly across the torso and legs of the rider and then around the frame which acts like an aerofoil. The Lotus Bike is based upon a prototype by Mike Burrows, a leading independent British sports cycle designer.
