Where is the punishment?

  • 27/02/2009

The factory inspector of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation in Ankleshwar has filed 13 cases against beil under the Factories Act, 1948. One was filed before the fire regarding the tsdf having seven sheds while it had the permission for only six. Nobody knows why the inspector did not talk of other violations then. Cases filed after the fire related to the absence of passage for movement of fire-fighters in and around the sheds, and of heat and smoke detectors in the storage area, inadequate fire-hydrants, uncovered vehicle emission sparks, design approval of sheds and inadequate protection of workers. If convicted under the factories act, beil will have to reverse the damage it caused. It will still escape punishment.
The sub-divisional magistrate of Bharuch has directed beil to remove pollutants released by the fire.
