Luxembourg: Supporters gathered at Rue de la Gare, a one-way street with two lanes. This street became car-free in one lane.

Ostersund, Sweden: In this city of Central Sweden, people arranged a car-free day by giving free bus rides to those who showed their car keys.

Prague, Czech Republic: Banners were strung over the main road into Prague proclaiming the city centre shut to cars. Activists took to the street. They suggested that officials "get off their lazy bureaucratic cars and use Prague's excellent trams.' As a result some did use the metro.

Quart De Poblet, Spain: Activists prohibited car traffic in some streets and distributed brochures to drivers.

Madrid, Spain: Traffic was halted for 20 minutes in the main avenue. Activists demanded a decent pedestrian path in the central square.

Warsaw, Poland: Cyclists took to the street, confe-rences were organised to explain the concept of car-free cities.

Hungary, Budapest: There were banners hung across the streets with symbols for bus lanes saying
