Polluting Vehicles

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers has moved the Bombay High Court to seek a clarification on whether the India 2000 and Euro II anti-pollution norms apply to two and three-wheelers. In September 1999, the high court had directed that those private non-commercial vehicles (like cars, scooters and motorcycles) that do not conform to the India 2000 norms shall not be registered in Mumbai with effect from January 1, 2000. The court had also further directed that those private non-commercial vehicles that did not conform to Euro II norms should not be registered in the city with effect from January 1, 2001.
