BRAZIL

BRAZIL An ingenious way to disseminate information and awareness about AIDS, the deadly malady, was encountered here recently. To design a costume for a carnival, a Brazilian dancer in Sao Paulo recently used 5,000 condoms apparently donated by the government ministry which is in charge of preventing AIDS in the country. The costume which is called :ngel of Life', stands three metre high and weighs 15 kg.

The dancer, Danielle Areco Veloso, said that the condoms had been donated from cast-offs for not having passed quality tests conducted by the ministry of health and were due to be burned. "I believe a carnival costume can be educational and at the same time be attractive. Thousands of people see the Parade, and the press coverage is huge. So it is a good time to make a point about preventing diseases in a way that is original," elaborated Veloso.
