An eye for detail
Scientists in California have developed a computerised eye which can detect mineral spots, camouflaged tanks or even campers lost in the woods from a height of above 6,000 metres. Hydice, or Hyperspectral Digital Imagery Collection Experiment, as it is called, is a sensor made of of a substance which can detect a range of wavelengths simultaneously. The sensor collects images which are then divided into thousands of pixels like those on a computer screen. The pixels are then split into 210 different wavelengths to analyse the characteristics of each of the objects being spotted.
