NAMA submissions to the UNFCCC: an overview from a transport perspective

In the lead-up to the Post-2012 climate regime, Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) are increasingly being seen as the framework under which Non-Annex 1 countries are to mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions and to receive international support for their efforts. There is currently no restriction on the nature of climate change mitigation activities that can be submitted to the UNFCCC as a NAMA. They are not limited by sector and can include any local, regional and national policies and measures that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from a business as usual scenario.
