Stay Order
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court granted an interim stay on the operation of an order of the Karnataka High Court directing the state government to get a first information report (FIR) registered with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for various cognizable offences without naming any person or groups of persons involved in the kickbacks in the multi-crore Cogentrix thermal power project in Karnataka. The court had also directed that the investigation by the CBI should be completed within a year from the date of registration of the FIR.
