PROTECT COASTLINE

The Supreme Court (SC) has once again upheld the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines in order to protect the coastline of India: this time with respect to the tiny beach of Palolem in the southernmost taluka of Canacona in Goa. The Mumbai high court had ordered the Canacona municipality to demolish hotel constructions within 200 metres of the high tide line, the SC appears to have clearly indicated that it would not tolerate violation of the judgment which it passed two years ago on the petition filed by environmentalist M C Mehta.
