Book notice: Green peace Green peace

In environmental cooperation may lie the promise of a peaceful world, proposes this book. It makes a powerful case for ecological security, a concept that has already gained coinage in the Western world. The need, the book argues, is to shed the mindset of perceiving a degrading environment only as a cause of violent clashes, but to see in it the potential for peaceful resolution of likely conflicts. To make its point clear, the book explores the processes, possibilities and barriers in transboundary cooperation on environmental challenges in six regions around the world: South Asia, Central Asia, the Baltic, Southern Africa, the Caucasus and the us -Mexico border. In its conclusion, it cautions about, among others, the possibility of unsustainable environmental cooperation resulting in accelerated resource exploitation, which in the long term may only serve to endanger peace.
