Salient features of the wind energy policy introduced in 1999

l The policy was officially notified in March 1999 and remains operational up to March 31, 2004

l Rajasthan will build a 100 mw capacity by 2003
l The sector is open to private participation

l Independent power projects can operate windfarms

l Entrepreneurs should have previous experience of having set up at least 7.5 mw wind generation capacity in the country, or it should be a manufacturer of wind energy generator having supplied, installed or commissioned wind energy generation capacity of at least 25 mw in India

l The maximum generating capacity of one wind farm should be between 10-25 mw

l The power generated can be sold directly to consumer or sold to the Rajasthan State Electricity Board

l As per the Income tax Act, 100 per cent depreciation is provided on assets
