GREEN WATCHDOG

The Supreme Court recently cleared the constitution of a five-member environmental protection authority (EPA) by the central government. A three-judge bench observed that the authority for the national capital region is "not only appropriate but also timely'. The EPA would include Anil Agarwal, director of the Centre for Science and Environment; Bhure Lal, central vigilance commission secretary; D K Biswas, chairperson of Central Pollution Control Board; Kiran Dhingra, Delhi transport commissioner and Jagdish Khattar, executive director of the Maruti Udyog Limited.
