CUTTING ISSUE
The deplorable conditions of the Dermar abattoir in Bombay has come under close scrutiny after the All India Welfare Association filed a writ petition in Bombay High Court. The Court has asked the Municipal Corporation and the state government to take necessary steps to prevent cruelty to animals. The petitioners desire the government to constitute a high-powered com- mittee to investigate and suggest remedial measures. They also requested the Court to order the authorities to curb the unregulated private slaughter of animals within Greater Bombay and the surburbs.
