Nigeria's Adamawa state recently witnessed a weeklong fierce battle between nomadic herdsmen and farmers. In the deadliest of these clashes, ethnic Fulani herdsmen attacked the farming village of Bali, killing 28 people. At least 30 people were killed in all.

"Farmers in the area complain that cattle graze on their land and they killed two Fulani herdsman over the dispute,' said Saidu Adamu, a local government official, according to media reports. "This latest incident was obviously a reprisal,' he added. Adamawa state police chief Hafiz Ringim said reinforcements were being sent to the area to check the violence.
