Replicator
Inspired by the Sukhomajri model, the Integrated Watershed Development Programme-Hills (IWDP) replicated it on a large scale. Funded by the World Bank, IWDP was initiated in five states in the northwestern Shivaliks, including Haryana. The project ran from 1990 to 2005.
Sambhalwa in Haryana was a success story. The village is spread over 157 ha. Common land comprises 16 ha and 112 ha are cultivated. IWDP came to the village in 1999 and it has not looked back since. A dam with a storage capacity of 20 ha metre was built. It irrigates around 80 ha. A village development committee (VDC) was formed in 2000 to maintain the structure and manage water. It meets at least once a month to discuss important matters and assess finances.
There are no limits on the amount of water supplied to a farmer. VDC auctions rights to a villager
