In the can

  • 14/05/2006

In the can All canned fish products with false information on packaging labels are to be taken off the shelves, the Thailand Food and Drug Administration (fda) recently said. The action was prompted by a complaint made by Apinun Suvarnaraksha of Maejo University's Faculty of Fisheries Technology and Marine Resources.

fda secretary general Pakdee Pothisiri ordered the recall immediately after tests confirmed the complaint. "The recall is important as consumers are entitled to right information,' Pakdee said. "We have worked closely with the Thai Food Processors' Association all along and yet canned fish manufacturers have never informed us about changes in ingredients,' Pakdee said. If convicted, manufactures will be liable to up to 10 years in jail and a maximum fine of about us $2,600.
