suit filed: A civil lawsuit over wastewater discharge was filed against Williamsburg Receiving and Storage's (WRS's) cherry-processing plant, in Whitewater Township, Grand Traverse County, usa. The lawsuit alleged that the company violated Michigan's water protection laws and an administrative consent order entered between WRS and the department of environmental quality (DEQ) in August. The agreement between the government and the company prohibited WRS from discharging process wastewater into the ground and required it to stop pumping wastewater into its wastewater storage lagoon until a permit was obtained that authorised the discharge of all process wastewater generated at the plant. But in early 2005, DEQ began receiving increasing numbers of complaints from residents staying near the WRS's plant.
