Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of M.C. Mehta Vs. Union of India & Ors. dated 24/04/2017 regarding restoration/rejuvenationn of River Ganga (Phase - I, Segment B, Haridwar Down to Kanpur Down).  Drains in Uttar Pradesh in Phase-I Segment B contributing to Ganga pollution includes Hemraj and Bijnor sewage drain.

State of Uttar Pradesh has been directed to provide information as to whether there are any industries in Bijnor area and around Hemraj and Bijnor drain. The effluent in the drain shows the presence of arsenic, iron, copper,zinc, manganese and other metals. It is to be shown as tohow these metals appeared in the drain. Also the Executive Officer of the Nagar Palika has been directed to produce the entire DPR prepared for the construction of the STP and whether any study was carried for dealing with Hemraj and Bijnor drain, both by Nagar Palika and Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and if not the reasons.
