Judgement of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rajiv Dutta Vs Union of India & Others dated 03/08/2017 regarding forest fires across the State of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. NGT directs that the MoEF & CC in consultation with the States formulate National policy/Guidelines for forest fire prevention and control, which should be updated periodically. It should also issue directions under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 to the States to prepare and implement forest fire management plan for effective prevention and control of forest fires in the respective States. NGT also makes it clear that the first lot of such policy should be issued within 3 months from the date of passing of this judgment.
