Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Ratneshwar Prasad Singh Vs Banka Municipality & Others dated 15/07/2019 regarding overflow of sludge from an open drain of Banka Municipality beside the applicant (Ratneshwar Prasad Singh) property. The applicant's appeal was rejected by the National Green Tribunal on the ground that it had no jurisdiction to entertain the claim.

Supreme Court in its order said that "a citizen’s grievance in regard to the overflow of sludge from the open drain should be attended to" by the municipality as it involved public health. The SC directed that the Chief Officer of the Banka Municipality, together with a team of engineers visit the place within a period of two weeks and prepare an appropriate plan of action to provide a lasting solution to the grievance of overflow of sludge from the open drain.
