Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding Ferro Build Hard not complying with environmental norms, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, 06/08/2019

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Praduman Tiwari Vs Union of India & Others dated 06/08/2019 on whether M/s Ferro Build Hards (I) Pvt. Ltd., Naini, Allahabad, (Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh was complying with the conditions of authorization under the provisions of Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016.

Praduman Tiwari had approached the Tribunal with the grievance that Ferro Build Hards was disposing medical waste directly into the river Yamuna and also by burning it. A report submitted by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has found shortcomings in the working of the industry including nonsegregation of bio-medical waste, non-operating autoclave and emissions from the incinerator not meeting the norms of air quality. The report also stated that some of the deficiencies were later rectified and Ferro Build Hards was asked to pay an environmental compensation of Rs. 8.30 lakhs. The Committeee also made 15 recommendations to improve the environmental compliance of the plant, which the industry has agreed to comply with.

The Joint Committee has been directed by the NGT to verify the claim of the industry and if deficiencies are found, appropriate action be taken in accordance with law and a report submitted.
