Report on construction in Park Estate forest land, Hathipaon, Mussoorie, Dehradun district, Uttarakhand, 15/02/2020

Report by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Uttarakhand dated February 15, 2020 in compliance of NGT order of January 16 2020 in O.A. No. 01/2020. The matter relates to construction made by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board in forest land in Park Estate, Hathipaon, Mussoorie, Dehradun district without approval under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.

The report stated that at present the old ruined C.C. Road which was in existence from 1943 (as per Municipal Corporation, Mussoorie records) has been renovated. No new construction of road or widening of road or any felling of trees have taken place. Further, the renovation work of an old building - George Everest Heritage Building was being done.

The Municipal Corporation has also issued a certificate stating that renovation of old building and old existing motor road has been done which were in existence prior to 1980. Similarly, a certificate was also issued by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board stating that the old road which was in existence has been renovated and for this purpose no felling of trees and no widening of road has taken place.

The permission for reconstruction and renovation of works was granted by the state government under the rules stipulated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. No new construction has been done.
