Status report on behalf of the Meghalaya government in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders in the matter of Jitul Deka Vs Union of India & Others, 25/06/2021.

The matter deals with illegal mining of stones/boulders in Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya.

The report informed the Tribunal that the efforts for levy and recovery of compensation are ongoing and being taken up on utmost priority. Joint patrolling teams consisting of representatives of district administration, police, forests and environment department and Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has been constituted to carry out continuous day and night patrolling. Drones have also been deployed for aerial surveillance as and when required. All efforts are being done to control the menance of illegal mining in the Ri-Bhoi district.
