Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board report on Shah Sponge Iron and Power, East Singhbhum, 10/10/2022

Action taken report in light of the direction issued by the National Green Tribunal in Original Application No. 390/2021 dated January 24, 2022 in the matter of Jairam Hansda Vs State of Jharkhand. The petitioner had said that Shah Sponge Iron and Power Ltd. Khaparsar Juri situated in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand is causing water pollution, air pollution and is also adversely affecting the biodiversity of the area and the health of the nearby residents. The NGT directed the constitution of a joint committee and the committee conducted inspection of Shah Sponge and Power, April 18, 2022. The non-compliances reported by the joint committee during the inspection were the following: 1. Exceedance of SOx, NOx, however PM value was found within the prescribed limit. 11. Leakages from the kiln feeding and discharge to the cooler. 111. Leakages from the kiln emergency cap. IV. Sufficient green belt not developed as per CPCB norms. The Joint Committee in its inspection report has directed the unit to submit a time bound action plan for compliance of the above and submit a bank guarantee of Rs. 25 lakhs to the SPCB.
