Six monthly progress report on solid waste and liquid waste management of Manipur state in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order, December 12, 2022.

A team of officers from Department of Tribal Affairs & Hills and Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, PHED and officials from Directorate of Environment and Climate Change have visited at Indore City for exposure of success story on waste management. Now, the team is preparing an integrated action plan for waste management in urban, rural and hill areas.

Segregation of wastes and door to door collection of segregated waste is continuing in urban areas. Home yard composting from wet waste and feeding to animal also are very common practices in rural areas and hill villages - about 90  per cent of the total solid wastes generated are composted as well as fed to animals. Material Recovery Facility (MRF) has already been setup and functioning at every urban local bodies (ULB) in urban area.

The report, June 16, 2023 said that a policy and action plan for re-use of treated wastewater in Manipur has already been drafted and is to be finalized in near future. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is working on decentralized technology or traditional technologies for wastewater management.
