Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of M C Mehta Vs Union of India & Others dated 04/09/2023.
The matter is related to pollution in river Ganga in the districts/cities of Uttarakhand.
The court noted that the authorities are not ready with the matter pertaining to district wise/city wise sources of pollution of river Ganga and its tributaries. The NGT, September 4, 2023 opined that the issue relating to each of the district/city from which the river Ganga and its tributaries are passing through in Uttarakhand is required to be looked into. Also, the matter of flood plain demarcation and maintaining environmental flow needs consideration.
Counsel for the applicant has requested for time to examine the above aspect and produce district/city wise environment issues concerning pollution of river Ganga in the state of Uttarakhand in a chart before the court.
