Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of News item titled "Lake buffer zone encroached to make illegal roads in Bengaluru’s Mahadevpura" appearing in Express News Service dated 25.12.2023.
The matter related to unauthorized construction of roads over lake buffer zone near Pattandur Agrahara lake, Mahadevpura, Karnataka. As per the said report a decision was taken to fence the lake but before the lake could be fenced, attempts have been made to encroach upon the area by building illegal roads on the lake buffer zone.
As the news item raises substantial issues relating to compliance of environmental norms, the NGT directed a notice to be issued to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board; Revenue Department, Bengaluru East; Bangalore Development Authority and State Wetland Development Authority. The Principal Bench of the NGT directed the matter to be listed before the Southern Zonal Bench on March 6, 2024.
