Counsel appearing for the state of Uttar Pradesh submitted that the action plan to prevent the discharge of untreated sewage and industrial effluents in river Ganga is ready but the approval of Chief Secretary/Additional Chief Secretary, Environment is needed. Therefore, the counsel has asked for time to file the same. A letter to this effect has also been circulated. The court, agreeing to it, listed the matter for August 29, 2025.
The applicant Rajendra Prasad Gupta had sent the present letter petition complaining regarding discharge of domestic waste water and untreated industrial waste water into river Ganga at Varanasi. In support of the letter petition, the applicant has also annexed photographs showing discharge of waste water and encroachment on embankments of river Ganga at various locations.
