Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Syed Arshad Nasar Vs Union of India & Others dated 07/05/2019 regarding illegal stone mining and stone crusher units in Rajmahal Hills, Sahebganj District, Jharkhand.

The inspection report filed by the District Mining Officer, Sahebganj shows lack of action by the concerned state and SPCB authorities. NGT while emphasizing on the necessity to assess the environmental damages caused by the illegal stone mines and stone crushing units directs the Committee constitute to look into the matter to assess the damages on the parameters of :

i. The quantum of minerals extracted and crushed.

ii. Damage on account of Net Present Value (NPV) against the ecological loss forgone forever.

iii. The ecological damage caused on account of the operation of the illegal unit.

iv. Cost against restoration of the environment.
