  • 25/09/2020

Report by the NGT Monitoring Committee (J&K) on the disposal of muck and debris during the four laning of National Highways-44 down the hill slopes and also into the Chenab river and other small rivulets, Jammu & Kashmir. The report was in compliance to the NGT order of March 20, 2020 in the matter of Amresh Singh Vs Union of India & Others.

The report informed the Tribunal that there was violations of environmental norms by the executing agencies engaged by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) by throwing the muck and debris haphazardly straight down the hills slopes, killing the natural flora and fauna and at a number of places directly into the Chenab river and other small rivulets choking their natural flow and contaminating the water. There was failure in proper preparation and maintenance of the designated dumping sites, wherever and whenever they had been put to use.
