The contamination in Mavallipura has reached such an extent that the Karnataka Milk Federation refuses to procure milk from the farmers here, alleged residents of Mavallipura. Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, the Mavallipura residents, under the aegis of Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS) and Environment Support Group (ESG), hailed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) order to close landfill. At the time when there is so much discussion about conserving the lakes of the city and removing pollution, a recent study has shown that plants like normal Water Hyacinth and Eichhornia Crassipes function like natural water purifiers and remove heavy metals, nitrates and phosphorous from the lakes.

JAMMU: Minister of State for Home and Urban Development, Nasir Aslam Wani today said that ` 219 crore was received from centre for conservation of Dal lake.
