Anopheles culicifacies is the major vector of both falciparum and vivax malaria in Sri Lanka, while Anopheles subpictus and certain other species function as secondary vectors. In Sri Lanka, An. culicifacies is present as a species complex consisting of species B and E, while An. subpictus exists as a complex of species A-D. The freshwater breeding habit of An. culicifacies is well established.
Malaria which was widespread in a few villages of Bijapur and Bagalkot districts, located at the tail end of Krishna River, has been brought under control. Out of the 3,500 blood samples colletected from several villages, only 236 have tested positive for the disease, said Malaria Prevention Unit

Kohima, April 7: Nagaland will join the rest of the country in observing anti-Malaria month in April. Anti-malaria month is observed in the month of June but due to paradigm shift of diseases transmission the month of April has been chosen for the observance, said Dr Imtimeren Jamir, additional director, directorate of health and family welfare, Nagaland.
