  • New industrial policy will be welcomed: PHD Chamber

    The PHD Chamber has said it would "welcome' the Delhi Government's new industrial policy when it is announced and enumerated several proposals that it wants to be a part of the finalised policy. Representatives of the Chamber said the new industrial policy would be formulated taking into account the norms of planned development included in the Master Plan for Delhi-2021. It had been revealed by the State Government that the Special Economic Zone policy for Delhi had been approved and would soon be notified.

  • E-waste recycling to be regulated

    In order to check proliferating hazardous e-waste recycling units in the national capital, Delhi Government is roping in private sector to regulate the process. "We have asked the private sector to come forward to develop an electronics waste management project on the basis of public-private partnership,' Delhi Environment Secretary JK Dadoo told PTI here.   • 20 check-in points in city to ease IGI chaos

    In what will considerably ease the woes of air travellers in the Capital, the Centre is planning to facilitate checking in of luggage at 20 points in the city which also allow passengers to use a fleet of dedicated air-conditioned buses. The scheme will be rolled out in coordination with the Delhi government. The move will help ease congestion at the airport as traffic increases in the run-up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It will also introduce facilities that are available at several major destinations where checking in luggage is possible at tube and bus links.

    Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is on a five-day visit here to acquaint herself with Beijing's preparations for the Olympics and study its rapid bus transit system in the backdrop of the controversy over the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) corridor in the Indian capital. With the Commonwealth Games in Delhi two years away, Dikshit, who arrived here today, would meet officials of the organising committee of the Olympic Games and visit the Games venues, official sources said. During her stay in the city, she would also see how Beijing's rapid bus transit system is working, they said.

The ministry has spiked the sectoral regulator's decision de-recognising IGL's projects in the Capital, saying the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board does not have powers to judge entities set up through government orders before it came into existence.

  • NDMC finalises locations for foot-over bridges

    Overcoming its feet-dragging approach to building foot-over bridges in the New Delhi Municipal Council area ever since the original proposal was approved by the Council in 2005, the civic body has finally accorded approval for construction of grade separators at seven locations in its area. Accepting the recommendations of project consultants Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), the civic body has decided to construct two foot-over bridges, three subways and two vehicular underpasses.

  • Traffic control system to be modernised

    In view of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Planning Commission has approved a plan outlay of Rs.200 crore for development and modernisation of the traffic control system of the Capital during 2007-12. Intelligent video cameras According to the Delhi police, there is a plan to install intelligent video cameras at all major traffic intersections, which would be connected to a central command and control centre through the Internet for transfer of video images.
