Tripura tribals taking up rubber cultivation
Septuagenarian Kripasadhan Chakma, a landless tribal living in remote Tabidapara of Tripura's South district is not a worried man today as he is now earning a living from his own rubber garden with the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council coming to his aid. Tabidapara is a picturesque tribal hamlet on a hill surrounded by forests, hit by acute food crisis and no jobs.

Implementation of Rupsoi NREGA schemes draws flak
Over 5000 labourers owing allegiance to CPM Kalgachia and Titapani local committees staged a stir on May 15 last on the premises of Rupsoi development block, Kalgachia under Barpeta district protesting against alleged corruption and anomalies by the concerned officers and employees in accomplice with a section of brokers in the name of implementing the NREGA schemes in the block area.

State making progress: Gogoi
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today claimed that Assam has made immense progress in the two years since the Congress-BPF combine came to power. In a function organised to mark the completion of two years of governance, Gogoi went to town showcasing what he called marked achievements, and took pot shots at his detractors. Gogoi asserted that Assam was clearly on the right track towards development, with a host of schemes for the uplift of the poor and the unempowered. Noticeable differences were being felt in different sectors with more funds being made available for development purposes.

Marathon run to create awareness on education
Not for all a run assumes significance, but for the tribal students of Parijat Academy located at Pamohi, Deepor Beel who have started realising the importance of education, a forthcoming run is turning out to be the most looked forward event of their academic calendar. The marathon run scheduled on May 18 and organised by Parijat Academy has also become important for the school authorities as the run is aimed at making the local tribal people aware about the value of education and the need to send their children to school.

NEC approves Vision 2020 to develop NE
The two-day North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary has approved the Vision 2020 to restore the NE region to a position of national economic eminence by the next eight to ten years. After hectic discussion among member States of the NEC in the two-day plenary that commenced here on Monday, DoNER Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer, all Governors and Chief Ministers of the region states signed the Vision-2020 document on Tuesday.
