Community radio bringing people together

Fisherfolk in the settlements along the coastline are so immersed in their day-to-day lives that they are normally ignorant of what happens in neighbouring settlements or issues relevant to them. A weekly community radio show, produced by the Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan, uses 30 minutes of available airtime to discuss these issues. The show is followed by 80 per cent of the population and acts as a binding force to unite and empower communities. This has got a petition filed against the Adanis in February 2007 a lot of attention. Around 2,000 people from 17 villages support Shekhadiya village's movement against the Adanis.
