Asking for help
india has sought help from Sweden to solve some of its environmental problems such as depleting natural resources. This was stated by Union minister for water resources, Arjun Charan Sethi while addressing a visiting Swedish delegation. "Due to rapid growth of population coupled with urbanisation, the water sources are fast depleting in the country both for irrigation and drinking. There is an urgent need to solve the environmental problems,' Sethi said. The Swedish delegation led by Kjell Larsson, the country's environment minister included representatives of power companies, ecologists and waste management experts. "Sweden has been able to successfully tackle problems of waste water management and industrial pollution,' the delegation stated. The possibility of harnessing India's huge hydropower potential was also discussed during the delegation's visit.
