Ecoharvesting

to promote rainwater harvesting in urban areas, the Madhya Pradesh government has amended its existing laws. Any building installing rainwater harvesting equipment will get a rebate of six per cent from annual property rent tax, says R Gopalakrishnan, coordinator of the state's Rajiv Gandhi Watershed Development Mission ( rgwdm ). For this purpose, rule 9 of the state's municipal corporation act for the maintenance of buildings was amended.

The government even organised a campaign to create awareness about the issue among the public and formed a database of experts. Rainwater harvesting experts from the rgwdm , municipal corporation of the cities and Centre for Science and Environment, a New Delhi-based non-governmental organisation, tried to educate people about the importance of harvesting rainwater during the campaign. They talked about various ways to harvest rainwater.
