Application of ICTs for climate change adaptation in the water sector: Developing Country experiences and emerging research priorities
This report investigates the potential for information and communications technologies (ICTs) to help communities adapt to climate change in the water sector. Using some examples of ICT applications used for water security as part of disaster risk reduction programmes, it considers the role played by ICT in supporting the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters. The overall report includes theoretical considerations for project decision making, regional explorations of the application of ICTs in contexts of water stress in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Asia, as well as emerging research questions in the field. Several case studies are included to highlight the application of technology in communities and water projects.
