Draft recommendations of the working group on development of North Eastern region
North-Eastern Region of the country is primarily disadvantaged on account of lack of physical infrastructure, viz. road, rail and air connectivity. Even the telecom revolution that is changing the lives of people in the rest of the country has not adequately penetrated into the North Eastern states. The basic health infrastructure also continues to be inadequate. This subject was identified and discussed as one of the key areas for focus by NAC. A Working Group of NAC on Development of North Eastern Region has been setup. The Working Group has had several rounds of consultation with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Communication and NEC, officials and various civil society organizations and prepared a set of recommendations. The recommendations pertain to the following areas: Health; Telecommunication; Civil Aviation; Higher Education; and Access to financial services.
