US outsources work to Indian journalists
Community journalism has never had it this strange. James Macpherson, publisher of a two-year-old website pasadenanow.com recently hired two journalists from India to report local events in a small town in the us. They will report on local events in Pasadena, California, from India.
The us has been outsourcing media jobs from India for the past a few years. But Macpherson's is said to be the first experiment in local journalism. This new phase of outsourcing has its benefits, he claims. "It will increase the quality of journalism at the local level without the expense that is a major problem for local publications,' he said. "You may be at a desk in Pasadena or in Mumbai. But you're still a phone call or e-mail away,' he adds.
