Taken to task
the ministry of environment and forests ( m o ef ) has come under attack from a parliamentary standing committee which has criticised its handling of Project Elephant. The committee noted that contrary to the claims made by the m o ef , one elephant dies every day . The ministry had claimed that the elephant population had increased following the launch of Project Elephant a few years ago. But the committee states that "the fact remains that a whole generation of elephants appears to have completely stopped.' The report further noted that the ministry had not been able to prove that the life of any elephant had been saved anywhere as a result of the large amounts spent by it.
