Another feather to his cap Asit K Biswas, an India-born Canadian, has bagged the prestigious 2006 Stockholm Water Prize for challenging the global status quo on water. At present he is the president of the Mexico-based Third World Centre for Water Management.

Biswas is widely acclaimed for his contributions to global water resource issues, including research, education and awareness, water management, human and international relations in both the industrial and developing countries. Born in Orissa, Biswas graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He helped undp and unido to establish the Pollution Control Research Institute, Hardwar, and has been an advisor to the Central water commission and Union ministry of environment, besides other Indian institutions. The Stockholm water prize is an international award founded in 1990 and is presented annually to an individual, organisation or institution for outstanding water-related activities.
