Question raised in Rajya Sabha on C-Section births in the country, 03/03/2020. As per the National Family Health Survey, birth by Caesarean Section (%) in the country has increased from 8.5% as per NFHS-3 (2005-06) to 17.2% as per NFHS-4 (2015-16) (annual data for NFHS is not available). The increase in C-Section births is contributed largely by the private sector. Whereas C-Section rate in public sector has reduced from 15.2% in 2005-06 to 11.9% in 2015-16, the C-section rate in the Private sector has increased from 27.7% in 2005-06 to 40.9% in 2015-16. There is no proposal to remove Caesarean Section from Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY). These packages are required for meeting the need of safety and health of woman and child. The utilization of these packages is monitored both at the Central and State level.
