  • 12/06/2020

Inspection report by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on Kudlu Chikkakere Lake, Kudlu, Sarajpura Hobli, Anekal taluk, Bengaluru urban district. The KSPCB informed the NGT that directions had been given to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take action against illegal constructions in the buffer area of Kudlu Chikkakere lake and stop the entry of sewage into the lake by providing permananent barricade/barrier at all the entry points into the lake.

At the time of inspection by the KSPCB, it was seen that the lake was filled with water and developed and maintained by BBMP Lake Division and that there was an increase in water collection in the lake as observed during the previous inspection on February 4, 2020. The BBMP authorities had stopped the entry of sewage into the lake by providing barrier to the sewage channels/storm water drains joining the lake at three points, but at one entry point, small quantity of sewage was entering the lake due to the damage caused to the barrier provided.

The BBMP authorities have diverted the sewage from the lake to newly constructed sewage treatment plant of capacity 500 KLD which was located adjacent to the lake. The STP was working at the time of inspection and treated sewage was being discharged into the lake. At present, there was no dumping of garbage into the lake and the municipal corporation also identified the projects and houses constructed in the buffer zone of the Kudlu Chikkakere lake.
