Report on illegal sand mining in village Dangra, district Datia, Madhya Pradesh, 26/11/2019

Action taken report on behalf of District Magistrate, Datia, in compliance of the National Green Tribunal order of September 16, 2019 in the matter of residents of village Dangra, District Datiya Vs State of Madhaya Pradesh.

The residents of village Dangra, district Datia said that illegal sand mining was taking place in the village by using submarines (underwater machines), which was adversely affecting the aquatic life and the environment. In the inquiry conducted by the District Magistrate, Datia and the Madhya Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, it was found that a show cause notice dated June 29, 2019 was issued to Sarpanch/Secretary Panchayat Dangra who was conducting mining activity with the use of submarines. The District Magistrate, Datia cancelled the mining lease on August 20, 2019 with immediate effect.

The report stated that the mining department has been keeping watch in the area and no illegal mining has been noticed till now and if any such cases gets reported, immediate action would be taken. Note: The report of November 26, 2019 was uploaded to the NGT site on July 10, 2020.
