Tuberculosis control measures in Urban India: strengthening delivery of comprehensive primary health services

This paper analyzes the magnitude of tuberculosis (TB) transmission and the quality of interventions in India’s urban areas and migrant populations. This paper offers actionable recommendations for TB elimination in India by 2025. Approximately 2.69 million tuberculosis (TB) cases—about a quarter of the global cases—were reported in India on The Global TB Report 2019. There are nearly half a million “missing” cases every year, either undiagnosed, unaccountable, or inadequately diagnosed and treated. The study presented in this paper is aligned with the government’s objective to strengthen the provision of comprehensive primary health care services for the urban poor as part of India’s National Strategic Plan, 2017–2025.
