Rainfall atlas of India 1971-2020

India is in the tropical monsoon zone and received plenty of rainfall. Most of the annual rainfall occurs during the summer monsoon season (June-September) every year. However, the distribution of rainfall over the entire Indian region is not homogeneous. Also, due to the impact of climate change, there are significant changes in the mean rainfall pattern and their spatio-temporal variability, as well as in the intensity and frequencies of extreme rainfall events. Based on the analysis of recent 50 ears of data (1971-2020), the report brings out some statistical information regarding the spatial distribution of annual, seasonal and monthly rainfall. This includes the climatological rainfall patterns, the coefficient of variation of rainfall, the contribution of seasonal rainfall towards annual rainfall and frequency of occurrence of different rainfall categories over the entire Indian regional for monthly, seasonal and annual timescales.
